That's all for now. I'm working on some new pieces and also some new designs for my shop.

Thanks for looking at my blog,

Back to School

I feel very lucky as I've had a lovely time with family and friends over the Christmas holidays. I hope you had fun too.

Chickpea has gone back to school today and that means getting back into a routine again. Well, some kind of routine - this morning she woke us up by reading Cakes In Space (by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre) via torchlight.

One of the things Chickpea enjoyed a lot over Christmas was cracker jokes. We have heard them endlessly. However this morning she had a new audience and when I left her at school she was telling one of her favourites and laughing like a hyena.

I'll leave you with that joke:

What did the policeman say to his tummy?

Thanks for reading my blog,

Teri

Pirate Day (ITLAP) 2014

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. We like to celebrate this date each year in this house, as me and Chickpea are very fond of pirates. Yarrr!

This week I have spent some time experimenting with the way I paint and also using mixed media. It's been fun and strangely I found myself drawing a pirate ship. Here's the finished piece:

This is taken with my phone's camera. I will scan the picture and get it on my website as I'm really pleased with it. It's a little bit messy but I like that.

Here are some progress pictures:

A messy start

Experimenting with layering ink with sponges

Loose brush painting on the waves

Adding stars and highlights with pencils and extra sails

Adding depth and shadows

And the finished piece again:

Happy Pirate day and thanks for looking at my blog.

Weekly round up 6th July 2014

This week has been busy (as usual). I managed to participate in a couple of the Daily Doodle (find them on Twitter and Facebook and join in) topics which was fun. The Daily Doodles were Quentin Blake themed as the brand new House of Illustration has been launched - follow them on Twitter @illustrationHQ also find out more here: http://www.houseofillustration.org.uk

I am working on one large piece and also looking at reworking my portfolio again, so lots of drawing in my sketchbook too.

Here's a round up of my week.

James and the Giant Peach for Daily Doodle:

Matilda for Daily Doodle:

The Fantastic Mr Fox for Daily Doodle:

A sketch for The Twits for Daily Doodle which I didn't get a chance to finish:

From my sketchbook - Chickpea having problems with her Wonder Woman headband:

A rather grumpy poodle - who knew poodles were so much fun to draw:

Finally a princess sketch:

Thanks for looking,

Round up 15th June

This week has been a bit less busy and I managed 4 out of 5 Daily Doodles plus an extra for Judith Kerr's birthday (The Tiger Who Came To Tea) which was Saturday.

From my sketchbook...

The Emperor's New Clothes:

The Little Mermaid:
This is a homage to my favourite mermaid, Iris, from Oliver and The Seawigs by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre (you can follow them on Twitter @philipreeve1 and @jabberworks). A brilliant book!

The Princess and The Pea:
If it's not peas keeping her awake, it's princes waking her up!

The Tortoise and The Hare:
This lead to me having to remember/make up the story to tell Chickpea. Which of course means it's her favourite story ever (until the next one)!

Finally it was Judith Kerr's 91st birthday on Saturday 14th June and I wanted to do something as The Tiger Who Came To Tea (amongst her other books) is such a well known classic and iconic book.

She's a fascinating person and there was a brilliant documentary on her last year (I think it was BBC but I'm happy to be corrected). If it's still around do watch it.

Pirates. Always Pirates!

From my sketchbook:

I've had a book idea in my head for about a year and have been sketching the characters on and off. The girl Captain has never quite been right. Until now! I am finally pleased with this as I think the sketch captures her personality well.

Daily Doodle Round Up

It's been a bit tricky but I've managed to do all the @Daily__Doodle suggestions this week (and the one from last week too), just! This week was Classic children's books. I may have gone slightly off piste with some of the topics but that doesn't really matter. It's all about the taking part!

If you've not had a go they are on Facebook and Twitter. Pick up a pen, pencil, crayon or whatever you like and join in the fun.

Lawrence The Red Bear:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar:

The Cat In The Hat:

Room On The Broom:

Peter Rabbit:

The Tiger Who Came To Tea:

It starts again on Monday morning. Pens at the ready!

Pigeons!

From my sketchbook:

With utter glee Chickpea shrieks "PIGEONS ON THE ROOF!"
There are always pigeons on the roof.

Why?

From my sketchbook:

Chickpea asks a lot of questions. A lot. One of the questions she's been asking recently is...

Cool Dream!

From my sketchbook:
At 3am this morning Chickpea was very excited that she'd had a dream about going into space "It was soooo cool!".

It's hard to be cross at being woken up when she was so exited about her dream. So much so that she got up 3 times to tell us about it.

Sketchbook Diary

Inspired by Alex T Smith's sketchbook diary he posted on Twitter today (thanks Alex) I did my own. I need a bigger sketchbook!
