Pirate Day (ITLAP) 2014

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. We like to celebrate this date each year in this house, as me and Chickpea are very fond of pirates. Yarrr!

This week I have spent some time experimenting with the way I paint and also using mixed media. It's been fun and strangely I found myself drawing a pirate ship. Here's the finished piece:

This is taken with my phone's camera. I will scan the picture and get it on my website as I'm really pleased with it. It's a little bit messy but I like that.

Here are some progress pictures:

A messy start

Experimenting with layering ink with sponges

Loose brush painting on the waves

Adding stars and highlights with pencils and extra sails

Adding depth and shadows

And the finished piece again:

Happy Pirate day and thanks for looking at my blog.

Round up 31st August 2014

I'm running a bit late with this one. Chickpea starts school this week so it's been busy! All very exciting though.

Anyway, here's some sketchbook work from me:

Weekly round up 25th August 2014

It's been another busy week but for different reasons. My husband had the week off so we've been out and about. From accidental strawberry picking, visiting the British Museum (with Chickpea stalking through the place with a magnifying glass), visiting family, Wisley Gardens with friends and even the dreaded Ikea!

It's been very busy indeed. So here's a few bits from my sketchbook:

New school uniform:

Wisley Gardens (drawn while 3 children were also entertaining me!):

Daily Doodle (@Daily__Doodle on Twitter) of Veruca Salt:

Daily Doodle of Charlie Bucket that I didn't get the chance to finish:

Thanks for looking at my blog!

Have a great week,

Round up 18th August 2014

I haven't written in my blog for a couple of weeks but I have been drawing.

The summer holidays are racing by and Chickpea starts school soon. We have been out and about a lot which has been excellent fun but Chickpea has been missing her friends lots. Especially as our lovely neighbours (Hi Doug and Matthew) have been away. I'd forgotten that summer holiday feeling.

There are a lot of drawings from my sketchbook so I've grouped them together.

Daily Doodle topics (@Daily__Doodle):
Mrs Tiggywinkle

Jemima Puddleduck

Squirrel Nutkin

Cat - death to all wool!

Genie - in tribute to Robin Williams

Grumpy Mouse

Monsters:
Some kind of hairy cat monster

Half dragon, half ogre

An ogre

Watching TV:
Marian - Indiana Jones

Back to the Future - excellent clothes!

Sarah & Duck - brilliant kid's TV programme and for some reason I drew BatDuck.

Things from my head:
Party girl

Fat bottomed pugs... There was a lot of pug drawing this last week.

For some reason Annie popped in my head.

A bear girl

Some Twitter people:
Chris

Elissa Elwick (@ElissaElwick)

Sarah McIntyre (@Jabberworks) who is an illustrator/comics hero of mine. She has the best hats!

Lots going on. Busy, busy!

Thanks for looking at my blog.
